Although the Bronx often gets a bad rap for its high crime rate, there are still plenty of safe neighborhoods in the borough that are perfect for young adults or families. Here is a look at the eight safest neighborhoods in the Bronx.

It also has a very low violent crime rate of 202 crimes per 100,000 residents, which is 48% lower than the national average.

Baychester is another one of the safest neighborhoods in the Bronx, with a total crime rate of just 1,402 incidents per 100,000 residents. That makes it 41% safer than the rest of the US and about 69% safer than other cities in New York. Located in the northeast Bronx, Baychester is a dense suburban neighborhood known for its diversity and quiet streets. However, it’s a large neighborhood with a population of 24,338 and has a violent crime rate of 441 incidents per 100,000 residents.

Located just across the Harlem River from Manhattan, Spuyten Duyvil has a population of 14,641 and offers plenty of parks and gorgeous views of the Hudson. It’s also a very safe community with a total crime rate of 1,660 crimes per 100,000 residents and a violent crime rate of 106 incidents per 100,000 residents, which is 73% lower than the national average.

Overall, it’s a safe community and one of the best places to raise a family in the Bronx.

Located in the Southeast Bronx, across the East River from Queens, Throgs Neck is a family-friendly neighborhood with a population of 40,546 that is home to the sprawling Ferry Point Park. The violent crime rate is 426 per 100,000 residents, which is 10% higher than the national average. However, that’s still very safe compared to other Bronx neighborhoods.

The violent crime rate is 566 crimes per 100,000 residents, which is 46% higher than the national average. But even still, Morris Park is safer than 59% of cities in New York.

Another one of the safest areas in the Bronx is Parkchester, a community of about 78,551 located in the heart of the Bronx. Parkchester is a planned community created by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and features many pocket parks and playgrounds that are great for families. The total crime rate is 2,245 per 100,000 residents, making it 4% safer than the rest of the US. The violent crime rate is 621 crimes per 100,000 residents, which is 60% higher than the national average. However, overall, Parkchester is still safer than 57% of cities in New York.
