All about renting a loft in NYC

While less than ten percent of the apartments for rent in NYC are lofts, these older converted apartments, with their distinctive industrial finishes and soaring ceilings, remain highly sought after, with many New Yorkers dreaming of renting a loft in the heart of Manhattan.
If you’re a renter that is dreaming of living in a charming NYC loft, with exposed brick walls and an open layout, some of the best areas to check out are Soho and Tribeca in Manhattan as well as Williamsburg in Brooklyn. But be prepared to pay up, as these highly desirable apartments command expensive monthly rents due to their desirability. It’s not uncommon for loft apartments to go for well over five-figure per month.
If you’re on a budget, you may want to consider a loft-like layout, which will also feature an open floor plan but might not be in a converted industrial building or just might not be quite as large as a more traditional loft. That being said, prices will still be high as an apartment will need to be at least 800 square feet to have a genuine lofty feel, and in NYC, something of that size will command a relatively high monthly rent.
