Located at the tip of Manhattan, 1 West Street is a luxury rental apartment building that is steeped in history. The property, which is a New York City landmark and is also known as Ocean 1 West Street, was previously known as the Whitehall Building and was the largest office building in NYC for a time. Prior to being converted to residential apartments in 1999, it also housed the Whitehall Club, the city’s premier maritime club. The residences at 1 West Street benefit from recent upgrades and renovation undertaken in the years following Hurricane Sandy. They feature luxurious finishes that include new hardwood strip flooring, marble bathrooms, and contemporary kitchens with stainless steel appliances. Apartments that face south are particularly impressive thanks to the fact that they offer some of the best views of the waterfront and New York Harbor. In terms of amenities, 1 West Street street has a well-equipped fitness center and a roof terrace that offers stunning views of the NYC harbor. Perhaps the best thing about living at 1 West Street, however, is the location, which is right next to the waterfront with Battery Park and the Battery Park City Esplanade being right at your doorstep. Getting around is also a breeze as virtually every subway is within walking distance, as is the path train and ferry service. A word of caution, though, the building is owned and managed by The Moinion Group, a landlord that we would not recommend. Past tenants do not speak highly of management, and the Ocean property, in particular, has encountered numerous issues that have led to complaints in the past.
